Love Poem: Heartbreak

Heartbreak

The loss of a child is always dark and sad news,
taken by cancer, gave this young father the blues.
Many nights spent in tears with a lump in his throat,
with a paper and pen, a poem he wrote.

Under a sky full of stars, a young lady found her true path.
She would serve her country and fight evil’s wrath.
One night overseas as she fought to defend,
a poem created by fear, her quill dripped and left penned.

The darkest dreams of the world are now coming true,
another global pandemic, much like the historic Spanish flu.
Somewhere a poet has died, leaving many to think,
pondering his last words that he bled with his ink.

As another true love is lost in the last hour of night,
death came soaring in, unyielding in flight.
With his family now gone, there is no one left that would know him.
For all of them my heart breaks…and so I wrote a poem.
