Love Poem: Heart of Ice

Heart of Ice

Heart encased in ice
To protect
From ice forged spears
Love is a risk and you may pay the price
Of heart ache, pain, and tears

Heart layered by layers
Of ice
For defense like that of a fort
Love is like a roll of the dice
Justice does not prevail in love’s court

Wounded heart
By love forlorn
And empty promises that fell apart
Heart tattered and torn

Heart hardened by ice
As tough as steel
Frozen layers constricting like a vise
Damage that may or may not heal

Mistaken love
Earnestly displayed and deceptively returned
Love-avoidance thereof
For fear of being spurned

An ice castle made for one
A reclusive life lacking spice
Cold and alone without the sun
Walled off and encircled in ice
