Love Poem: He (Unrequited Love)

He (Unrequited Love)

If I could sign away a piece of me for a piece of you
Just hand me the pen,
Or I’ll sign in blood!
I’ll sign with anything on anything just to have you.
But I’m a fool in love with you.
You don’t even know who I am. I know you’ve already forgotten.
Why did you kiss me? Why did you let me believe?
Why did the sudden silence feel like a slow death?
I remember the last time I saw you- I searched deep
Into your eyes
Hoping that I’d see a little bit of sorrow…
But I saw nothing.
Oh, the sparkle was there but it wasn’t for me.
It’s funny how you can tell that.
Who is she? I can’t help but wonder knowing that I’ll
Never ask you. I’d never want to.
I might never see you again-
Strike that-
I know that we’ll see each other soon, we run in circles,
And I know how that will go too:
You will avoid my eyes and try to disguise the elephant in the room with faded
small talk
And I will hang on every single little word
Trying to decode your message to satisfy my aching heart-
I can’t say you broke it- that’d be giving you too much credit.
Boy, I call you boy because a man would never have played your tricks, boy
You hurt me.
But when you speak I melt.
And when you smile? Forget it.
Every negative thought floats away
And I wish that you would just hold me in your arms.
Yes, I would sign away everything I am and own in blood just to have you see me
the way I see you.
Just show me how.
