Love Poem: Hatched Baby Turtles and Love

Hatched Baby Turtles and Love

HATCHED BABY TURTLES AND LOVE

I recall my return to the sea
where the salt air mixes with beer very well
and waves roll forcefully to the shore
washing across boulders that form barriers

The ensuing forceful power of the storm approaches
and turtles just hatched from their eggshells
instinctively scurry in a hurry seeking the safety of the water
hungry seagulls with appetites for baby turtles ominously flutter

What I especially remember are her eyes and how they teared
slowly and passionately
her face merged with the beauty of an Irish poet’s soul
I immediately began to feel vulnerable

My life turned around on a dime
until then I had been a mess with alcohol
I was no more like a stone skipping across the pond
but more like an anvil dropped in a shallow pond

Until I talked to her for the first time
it was then I realized I needed an anchor in my life
her aura gave me the feeling she was my life’s mate
it touched subterranean depths in my being

She was it for me

For the first time I allowed someone to hold me tight
her love was like a fresh mint cooler on a hot day
a shot of Crème de Menthe on the palette
heaven cannot be as good or as giving as love in the heart

To say that I was smitten is a huge understatement
I begin to see the wisdom of and in many things
like love can make you into another person
or love sincerity given, is love sincerity rewarded

We were young and struggles were ahead for sure
but I hope our love will outlast the seagulls flying above
looking for the young and vulnerable turtles to devour
who only wish to be left alone and live a full life, in peace.
