Love Poem: Half a Heart

Half a Heart

You died, thus half of me died,
and my pain is unbearable!
There is nothing anyone can say or do
that can ease that hurt,
or bring me a minuscule amount of comfort.
When I close my eyes,
all I see is your face smiling at me
and my heart falls apart,
every time I do.
Death severed my heart in half!
And now, I drown in a sea of tears
that morphs into an ocean of grief.
Clinging to half a heart
I slip into a world of memories and dreams,
desperately trying to escape reality.
What good is half a heart?
Is it worth salvaging
when such a vital piece is missing?
There is no wish or magic elixir
that can bring you back;
my loss is irretrievable!
I'm doomed to live out my remaining years
with but half a heart;
for until death reunites us,
my heart will never be whole again.
