Love Poem: Halcyon

Halcyon

At the winter solstice,
It is said,
The mythical bird
Mates in a nest floating
On the sea.
She charms the wind
And the waves
Into calm.

Note: Halcyon means “kingfisher” in Greek, and the phrase is founded on a charming myth, involving the marriage of Alcyone – daughter of Aeolus, the god of winds – and Ceyx, son of the morning star.
