Guilty of Innocence

Guilty of Innocence

Love – has always been guilty – as charged!
No jury necessary to reach this verdict.

Guilty!
Of breaking and entering in the night,
bypassing the security system,
stealing its way into a locked heart.

Guilty!
Of softening the edges of resistance,
melting the iciness of doubt,
soothing the confusion of feelings.

Guilty!
Of opening the drapes of loneliness
allowing a warm glow to permeate –
from inside out – the entire being.

Guilty!
Of turning the face into a silly grin,
glazing over the eyes in wonderment,
raising skipping feet off the ground.

Guilty!!
Of infection with infatuation’s gaze
addiction to its trembling touch
deafness - to all but its scented “whispers”.

Yes – Love is Guilty!!
Of kidnapping the lovers,
of wrapping them in the essence of its innocence.
