Gratitude (For Cd)

Love is too much spoken
And I must be
Another, common of the sort
To carve it with my pen
On the tree bark
Of your memory ... because you are
Like a beautiful star
So far, far
Away ... nourishing me with the milk of light
Your name sparkle on my tongue
To tell your worth measureless
Across the sky bejeweled night.

Appreciation is a word so cold
For even winter comes nearer
Than the distance
Between the poles ... no, I mean more
Than hands can caress
And tongue can taste of breast
The certainty of my love
Is the certainty of your steadfastness
And for this I forgive
The lightning of your emotions
The thunder of your words
For this I wait
To see you smiling at the gate

A man is not fully man
Without a woman's love
Without a mother's guiding hand
A sister's honesty to tame
Ego at the brittle edge of shame
Without a lover
To teach him how to give
His soul complete in sacrifice
And then forgive
The fire of his demise.
I overflow with thankfulness
From my emptiness of pride
A woman's love must be
A man's liberation
To bow before her majesty.
Before you
I am laid as purest love
Thankful for
Friendship unfailing like a star.
