Love Poem: Gotta Love First Loves

Gotta Love First Loves

I think I remember how we got together,
Grew apart, switched paths, changed forever.
It was my eyes, you said, that drew you in;
Appeared so deep, the girl of your dreams,
You told me every night, before falling deep to sleep,
Letting your mind seep,
Into dreamless sleep,
I know, I know, it's a hard pretence to keep,
That this is perfect, was worth it.

Do you remember when I was sick?
You told me, go to sleep, get some rest.
You don't need to be strong tonight.
Or that night in the car,
What music shall we listen to?
It's a long journey, you see,
Pick something you like.
Picking a worn-down cover, I clucked in distain,
"I don't know who this is!"
An enticing design, a bird with black feathers.
"Put it on," you said,
Smiled warmly, or wrily?
"Something is better than nothing."
I did and it was,
I listen to it every day.

I'll warm to the memories of times gone by,
The words, the nostalgia, the rain-drenched sky,
I think perhaps I'll talk to you some day,
And listen to stories,
Of a better day.
