Going Outta Style

Be careful in a world whose morals seem so cold
Don't let negative surroundings hold you back from being bold
Find someone who retains your youth, not someone who makes you old
and if life has the upper hand you don't always have to fold

I loved a few back in my day
I slowly drove them all away
I didn't know the things to say
To make any of them want to stay
and my heart will mold, rust and decay
From excuses of pain, fear and dismay

Learn to walk away when you're stuck talking to a wall
you don't have to try again if they don't return your call
try and find that person there to catch you when you fall
show them how to walk when life forces them to crawl

Don't get tricked by every wink or the gleam in every smile
You might not like what you see once you've talked with them a while
That's why you need a sort of test run or preliminary trial
Because some woman will wear you like you're going outta style

I loved a few back in my day
I slowly drove them all away
I didn't know the things to say
To make any of them want to stay
and my heart will mold, rust and decay
From excuses of pain, fear and dismay

So keep your heart wide open but make sure your eyes stay peeled
because it's amazing when you find true love but it's painful when your hopes are killed
Because at that point no one can save you until you know if all your wounds are healed
and that's when you let no one in, that's when you create a shield

I loved a few back in my day
I slowly drove them all away
I didn't know the things to say
To change and make them want to stay
and my heart will mold, rust and decay
until these demons I decide to slay
