God chose you for me to raise; every step of every mile
I loved teaching you to walk, prompted by my loving gaze
you made all my worries and anxieties well worthwhile.
God chose you for me to raise.
It was so long ago, it's like a dream trapped in a maze
but when I'm lucky such memories come and stay awhile
although lately time has muddled my thoughts within a haze.
When you were born I was rendered speechless and immobile
and instantly knew I loved you; and would love you always
as my life comes to an end I can face death with a smile.
