God Came Down

God came down to a world in need,
God came down and planted a seed,
God came down to a stable forlorn,
God came down and Jesus was born.

Jesus was born to a woman called Mary,
Jesus was born in a time that was scary,
Herod was told of prophecies past,
A King for the Jews was coming at last!

Herod was told by wise men from the East,
They told him their journey had finally ceased,
They had come a great distance, led by a star,
Bringing Frankincense, Gold and Myrrh in a jar.

Now Herod was sly, no warmth when he smiled,
When the Magi had gone in search of the child,
He said to his soldiers, this day by my word,
Every boy under two shall be put to the sword.

He never considered that God saw it all,
His angel was sent to that stable stall,
The Magi had left after leaving their treasure,
The angel had told them of Herod's displeasure.

To Joseph and Mary, the angel came next,
He told them that Herod was mightily vexed,
Go to Egypt, he told them, with haste, do not lack,
Stay there until you are told to come back.

When Herod was dead his son was as bad,
The angel told Joseph to go with the lad,
To Israel now, and take Mary too,
But Joseph was worried , he knew not what to do.

He disobeyed God, feared for Jesus you see,
So he turned aside , went to Galilee,
So the prophets words were then fully seen,
The Babe in the manger, was a Nazarene.
