Love Poem: Gift of Love

Gift of Love

Poor little shepherd boy,
what gift did you bring
To little baby Jesus,
what was your offering

The stars shined so brightly
in the heavens that glorious day
The angels showed you exactly
where in Bethlehem, Jesus lay

Poor little shepherd boy,
what gift did you bring
To little baby Jesus,
what was your offering

Was it your unspoiled heart,
innocent as the pure white snow
Was it your compassionate eyes
that watched over the sheep you followed
No, you gave the little lord
something simpler, yet so much more
You gave the holy child the best thing
you had ever made with your hands before

You gave Him a wool knit wrap,
for His precious little hands and feet to keep warm
You gave Him a small fleece covering,
for His holy head which would never be shorn

And through the ensuing years,
the Lord never forgot this great kindness ---
this gift of love bestowed upon Him,
woven with such loving care and tenderness

For on the cross, as Jesus thought
of all the souls He came to save
When He thought on your name,
an angelic smile came upon His face
As His shed blood flowed freely
upon the ground at that hallowed place
His gift of love in return,
was the holy gift of eternal grace
