From Where I Stand

(A take on Romeo and Juliet)

The fates of time were too unkind
You left the little girl behind
Too long the passage time cannot heal
We play the cards the gods do deal

Yet still you are so young and beautiful
And I love you so, your lips of cherry wine
Your eyes that doth shine
Shame the stars that glow

If sleight of hand or trick of sight
Could have brought their love to light,
So many long years ago
Into the river of love they’d flow

The water’s pure would take our love
Then reflect on these years we didn’t share
Worth the wait you’re everything I adore
So take this heart I offer to you

Their minds and hearts entwined as one
To finish what their love begun
To dance the dance that lovers do
You with me and I with you.

Fate did find, eyes and arms satisfied
With your angelic smile your gentle touch
Your kiss so tenderly I plea, never set me free,
And you’ll forever be young and beautiful to me!
