French Proverbs

In this life, you have no one for long,
then someone so quickly it feels like their presence
has touched you only as a moth,
gently beating wings against tree bark
until a breeze stirs the world against it.
And why not love, when you can?
I call you, in my heart, my love;
I cling to you, fierce and strong.
These days – moments strung together,
links of paper chain easily torn when pulled.
When it comes time to break, let me;
and the loop that tears gives us the next clue.
My love, my heart: happiness and love, like youth,
last only moments – but every moment
proves worthy of memory.
