Love Poem: Free

Free

Sometimes I wish I could be free
Free from this trap that has engulfed my sense of well being
Free. No chains attached to my soul marking me another stereotypical girl
Sometimes the world makes me feel so alone.
So I close my eyes and try to disappear. But no matter what it’s always there.
It’s like a tick I can’t quite control its reasons.
But I’m living and breathing and everyday it’s hurting.
People don’t seem to understand they just see me as another sad story.
Well if that’s the case I don’t need your sympathy.
If that’s what you think than trapped is what I’m meant to be
I wouldn’t want to go back to the days when I was ignorant anyway
Back to the days when I thought it could never happen
It did and I’m a real case not a sad story so listen when I talk
Don’t block me out because you’re afraid
I’m free. To gain the amount of wisdom I now hold would take centuries
But I’m willing to teach.
What I want you to do is just listen.
AIDS is what I have and it’s been an experience but I manage
Life is a journey. I’ve spent so much time wondering.
Now that I know what to expect I realize freedom is just a mind state
My mind is clear; nothing left to fear but fear itself
So if you ask me what’s wrong when you look at my blood?
I’d say nothing. Nothing at all. Cause I’m free. Don’t you see?
                                      Free…
