Love Poem: For Sally

For Sally

Perhaps it was the leaves turning green.
Or, was it heather-blue skies above?
May have been sunset choosing between
ruffling red or apricot clouds with love.

It could have been the lovely birdsong;
quaint mockingbird singing his refrains,
breeze hugging trees as it skipped along,
raindrops gently kissing windowpanes.

Whatever it was, caused me to forget
your birthday--I'm filled now with shame.
However, I feel spring had an effect.
Those roses, I'm quite sure, are to blame!
