Love Poem: For Love - One

For Love - One

"Ah ... to be young!"

FOR LOVE ...

Driving 15 miles at 2 AM to
Get to my girlfriend's house,
Parking four blocks down
The street, collecting "just

The right size" pebbles while
I walked to her house,
Storing them in my shirt
Pocket, climbing up and over

A six-foot wooden picket
Fence, crossing the yard
In silence while praying the
Neighbors didn't see me

And call the police, climbing
Up and over a nine-foot
Chain link fence while making
Sure I didn't make Penny,

(Her dog), bark, or catch
My pants on the top ... giving
Penny some Gaines Burgers,
(Dog food), while I climbed

Up on top of the dog house,
Balancing on the peak of
Penny's dog house while
Tossing little pebbles at my

Girlfriend's window, making
Sure I didn't throw them
Forcefully enough to break
The glass pane, but hard

Enough to make sufficient
Noise to wake her, (and
NOT wake her mother in
The room next to her's) ...

And WHAT, you may ask,
Was the reason for this
Foolish middle-of-the-night
Ritual, (which I repeated

Over a dozen times)? This
Silly little sleepless liturgy
Was for the sole purpose
Of saying quietly to her ...

"I love you" ...

And going back home.
