Love Poem: For John

For John

Where are you my love?
You were here just yesterday,
Holding my hand and kissing my brow,
your slender fingers pressed firm against my rough skin,
your soft gentle lips lingering lovingly against mine.
Where are you my love?

Where are you my dear?
I can yet see your handsome face,
even after someone new has taken your place.
Why has your caring heart left me here
With this man I don’t know, who fills me with fear.
Where, oh where are you my dear?

Love of mine,
I will always be here
to hold you when I can, and love you when I can’t,
to look into your eyes and remember our life
and remind you of each bright sunrise,
love of mine.

Where am I my sweet?
The reflection in the mirror is somehow rearranged.
The hair is the same, the eyes haven’t changed,
but, dark in my pallid mind, the image I see
is someone strange, I don’t know, blankly staring back at me.
Where am I my sweet?

Where are you my love?
If my loneliness lingers for a lifetime
I will wait for you through each pained moment.
Where are you my love?
It matters not for I will be by your side until your return
and guide you into the warmth of our beautiful new dawn.
