For a Moment In Time

For a moment in time I had him,
For a moment I was the rose not just the thorny stem.
For a moment in time I was his princess,
For a moment not just the cub but a lioness.
For a moment in time I felt his arms around me,
For a moment not just a leaf but the entire tree.
For a moment in time I felt his lips,
For a moment I was the entire hand not just the fingertips.
For a moment in time I was his,
For a moment I not only felt joy I discovered true bliss.
For a moment in time I made his world turn,
For a moment I did not simply shimmer I burned.
But a moment is simply that,
A blink of an eye and it's gone, fact!
Winter comes in a heartbeat,
The tears freeze upon your cheeks like sleet.
You try to get your heart to thaw,
Every one of your heartstrings bare and raw.
All you can do is hold on to his memory,
Praying his sabbatical is only temporary.
You can not eat nor sleep,
The wounds are far too deep.
You scream and cry out to the Maker of Heaven and Earth,
"Why did you take him, he was my entire worth?"
The answer comes back soft and low,
"I took him so you could still grow.
Fear not, child, he will return to you,
And you may have him til your days are through.
For I only took him for a moment in time,
To teach you, you had finally found the love of a lifetime!"
