Love Poem: Flower Girls

Flower Girls

Teddy-bear
Day-dreams
Of a
Flower girl
Full of
Blue eyes,
White lies
And a

Smile
I see
Everywhere
I go-
Her ghost
Is good at
Haunting
And she
Left
A long time
Ago
But

I see her
Again,
Not in some
Mirror-whisper
But in other
Flower girls
With their
Teddy-bear
Dreams:

This one
Wears a
Sweatshirt
Like a
Shield;

That one
Disappears
Into songs
So she can
Ignore
How her
Tummy
Rumbles
When she
Sleeps-
She doesn't eat-

If there is
One thing
That the first
Flower girl
Taught me
It's that
I can't
Save
Everybody
But

I can devote
Myself
To the
Little things
And maybe
Make
One
Of those
Flower girls
Happy….

To my little one-
Please
Help me
Succeed in
Keeping
This flower girl
From
Following
In your footsteps,
Becoming
Another
Memory
I have to carry-

I don't
Believe
In
God
Anymore
But

I'll pray
To you,
My
Ghost-guardian
Of an
Angel….

Please
Keep these
Flower girls
Safe
For me-
I'm quickly
Running out of
Space
In my
Trash cans-
They're already full
From all the
Razor blades
I've had to
Confiscate
This week-

I remember
When you
Were
Just a phone call
Away;
Now you’re
Just a
Voicemail
I can’t seem
To come to terms
With
Or delete,
But,
Teach me
How I can be
Better
Than when I was
Just with you
So my inbox
Isn’t full
With fates
Lined up,
In a cue
Waiting to be
Just like you.

I can’t let go,
So it seems
I’ll be the one
To carry
All their pain
On my shoulders
But
If it saves them
From themselves
Then so be it.

Amen
In the name of a
Flower girl
I can’t forget.
