Flirting

To flirt, a clever game of words
flying free, a small flock of birds
startled into a scattered flight,
wishing, this once, to get it right.

Encounters with a clever quip
bring on a quiver of the lip,
any worse does terror ignite
wishing, this once, to get it right.

An invite to a coffee date
turns me into a sorry state
evoking pity for my plight
wishing, this once, to get it right.

A silent fate is mine to bear
while seeming like I do not care.
I must be quite the silly sight,
wishing, this once, to get it right.
