First Kiss

I was fifteen, she was fourteen.
Her name was Lynne. We met at church.
Her folks had just become members,
so she was coming every Sunday.

What enchanted me most about
her were her lips, so full and pink.
Most people notice eyes, I notice
lips, it's just the way I am, I guess.

She was like a princess, so petite.
Often she wore pink. She was blonde,
her hair was medium length.
I seem to remember she had great legs.

It was Easter. My friend Martin (also
Lynne's friend, though he was fond of
Julie) set up the 'secret meeting.'
I was to meet her in the scout room.

I was so nervous I thought my heart
would burst! It was after service, and
everyone was in the Sunday School
room having their usual cup of tea.

I was to wait in the scout room for her
to come down. I heard her footsteps
on the stairs, and the door handle turned.
She floated into the room.

Shyly I said, "Hello, you look so pretty!"
She smiled at me. I melted. We swapped
Easter gifts. I leant over, closed my eyes,
and kissed her. Her lips were so soft!

We held each other for a while,
lost in the moment. She smelled so good
I felt like I was walking on air! I kissed her
again, and then we went upstairs for tea.

I suppose that made her my girlfriend,
but I was too nervous to pursue her.
We still saw each other, but only on Sundays.
I'll never forget that soft and lovely first kiss...
