Love Poem: Father Wounds

Father Wounds

It can be painful when we discover things about someone we hold dear
The discovery is not a virus that spreads through the atmosphere,

Nor can we take a pill or injection for it as if we have the flu.
We inherit his DNA, and he will always be a part of us.

We often long to rise to new heights and soar like an eagle.
But sometimes, we also feel like a caged bird in a friendly zoo.

For many years, the things I hated about him stuck to me like glue.
It took years to learn and love things about him that I never knew.

The years we carry the ‘father wounds' may be many or just a few.
But as the wounds are healed, we feel fresh like the morning dew.

And the old scares of pain and shame slowly disappear,
as our heavenly father’s love comes shining through.
