Father and Son

Father & Son by Kenny Davis

There are few bonds greater
Than that of Father and Son
That holds that of great value
Due to having only one

8 years, though short lived
May not seem like a lot
But it could mean the world and make all the difference
When 8 years is all you've got

You would wonder what kind of damage
To the son, losing a father so young
Does he become angry, emotionally distant
Perhaps silencing the tongue

Does he disregard those around him
Have their words fall on deaf ears
Cautiously yielding, shielding himself
From a now seemigly cold world for years

I lift my eyes towards the hills
And highly elevate my chin
As my God in Heaven, shows the soul
Of my Father, living within

While here on this Earth
My Father, indeed a great man
With his spirit, now dwelling in my heart
It forces me to stand

I stand boldly in his absence
I stand firmly in his place
Leaving behind his legacy, his presence
Never forgetting his face

Leaving me the most honorable of gifts
Than that the one of his name
And the inheritance of his prestigious bloodline
A birthright I rightfully claim

I have but one mission, not to fail
A task to make him proud
Looking to hear, "My son, well done!"
When I meet him again beyond the clouds

Though his absence holds a pain
Though times without him may often sting
It's numbed off by the feeling I get
When he'll finally hug me again with his wings

Though my world has dimmed a bit
Without the essence of his glow
I take solemn in the fact that I know
We'll meet again, hugging, in matching robes.
