Love Poem: Fatality

Fatality

Tonight is what did it
Done. No more. The end.
I didn’t know if this would work
But we made it this long, friend

Your words and actions say pain
You’re not used to rejection
I get it, you’re hurt and upset so
Naturally, you use it as a weapon

Apparently a lot changed in 6 hours
Like your attitude, even who you want
That’s just a few of the reasons why
When I say no to you, I’m always so blunt

If I didn’t love who I do so intensely
I probably would’ve fallen hard for you
Your words the other night though
Definitely didn’t reflect a love that’s true

I’m grateful that I’ll never be swayed now
Regardless of whether daddy’s home or not
The depth of what and how you wrote
Had me thinking things an awful lot

My standards aren’t about what you can do
It’s about values and someone I can trust
Knowing I’m safe and being cared for will
Always be worth more than affection and lust

When you looked me dead in the eye
And told me what you really think of me
That soul tie you once spoke of broke
And I received such sudden clarity

You misunderstood so much that day
And clearly forgot that I have to have space
If you hadn’t poked the bleeding female
Things wouldn’t have ended this way

Just because I didn’t say something to you
Every single time I made a mental tally
Doesn’t mean I couldn’t see it in your eyes
Helplessness in the hands of fate, fatality.
