Family Portrait

Family portrait

If you had a family portrait
What would it reveal?
And if you currently have one
What does it conceal?

For all those happy photographs
Or paintings on the wall
Often hide a deeper pain
Of tales of hurt and falling

The happy smiles fixed upon
Faces forced to look good
But the sad eyes reveal so much
About the soul traumas of childhood

No family is perfect
No matter what they pretend to the world
Relationships are challenging
It takes effort for love and light to flourish

So, don't look at other families
And compare your situation
For nothing is truly what it seems
When we examine the human condition

The best that you can do
For the loved ones in your life
Is to be kind and considerate
Show love and authentic smiles

If something bothers you
Speak up in a constructive way
Build open communication lines
And work on having many good days

Whoever you choose as your family
Ensure you share love and kindness
Create a real life of fond and special memories
That no family portrait needs to hide
