Love Poem: Falling For the Broken

Falling For the Broken

Maybe nothing matters
Maybe we just sit under the stars
Tiny and insignificant
With no answer big enough for our dreams
With words so small they don’t have meaning
Maybe marching to the beat of our own drum
Is simply a heartbeat

Or maybe we all learn to fall before we stand
And we remember what it means to forget
And throwing a penny in a wishing well will lead us down the right path
And counting the number of leaves on a tree blurs the color in Autumn
And the slam of a door echos into a pearly white cloud know for teardrops
With no silver lining to trace
Counting upon someone who’s gone to catch me

But maybe
Just maybe there's a reason
We find missing puzzle pieces so haunting
We love the stories behind our cracks
We never fear the shatter and float upward like the smoke from a fire
Maybe it’s because broken things are reminiscent of us
And we dream that our stories are just as beautiful as the cracks on a windowpane

Maybe it’s because some days we feel too complete and want to share a piece of us
Make someone else's fire burn brighter
Give someone a year’s worth of tomorrows
And when we are the glass half empty
The bird falling from the sky because we flew too high
We live on the hope that someone will lift us again
Because they fell in love with our pieces
Broken and whole.
