Love Poem: Fallen Flight

Fallen Flight

Somewhere between the double-pane windows and the coconut pie,

I lost you -

You were unpredictable and brash,

You were reckless and irreverent,

I loved you my awkward, little creature.

So thin and so fragile,

You were made only for flight,

As was this heart that flew to you.

How could that biting tongue be rendered mute?

How could a heart so bright become so dim?

How did such a being lose her way,

To crash against this crusted earth,

Destroying all in fallen flight?

There you ended with my love,

Dashed against an empty patch,

Where no hope or dream could grow.

How my soul still longs for you,

That creature that once took flight

And with her my unfettered heart.

Now all is gone that once was beautiful and flew

And neither this heart will fly again nor you.
