Love Poem: Eyes

Eyes

I see the past, where I have come from,
The truth and not just my mind’s lies.
Memories of the fun and the humdrum
When I look in my father’s eyes.
Although so often I am complaining,
All bound up in my family ties,
I see the love that has sustained me
When I look in my father’s eyes.

I see the present, where I am standing,
I see where my heart now resides.
	I see acceptance and understanding
When I look into my wife’s eyes.
All that I was and all I might yet be,
All of the low points, all of the highs,
My fear disappears, my dreams are all set free
When I look into my wife’s eyes.

In the mirror I see just an empty hole.
But in others a window to the soul.
I’m startled by what those I most love show,
And how it helps me to grow…

When I feel I am drowning in sorrow,
Trapped here in my sad disguise,
I get a glimpse of a new tomorrow
When I look in my children’s eyes.
I can see hope, the future is shining.
It always takes me by surprise.
An end to the shadows, stopping my whining
When I look in my children’s eyes.

What I can see always astounds me
Not so much what, when or where, but the why’s.
For I can see God’s love always around me
When I look in my father’s eyes.
When I look into my wife’s eyes.
When I look in my children’s eyes.
