Expiration Date

Expiration Date
By Kevin Robey
February 20, 2014

Cold fears leaving me dry
No where left for me to hide
Can't seem to find a reason
why
Those times you didn't take my
side

Check my expiration date
My body sold too long ago
There's no point for you to wait
Forget me in the waste below

It's the best of fates for me
Among debris of yesterday
A judges iron pen decree
That I was meant to live this
way

I find the book of tired lies
Sold to me when I was young
Full of dreams not realized
No air remains to fill my lungs

Streaks of hope still pierce the
dark
Sharper than edges of my
knives
To live again I'll need that
spark
Release the fire that burns me
alive

Can't you see three decades
here?
Uncertainty these days remains
No self-entitled promises near
Of future plans marked with
stains

My skin still scarred by
yesterday
Delay the sun I'll stay away
Fill in the blanks between the
rays
To find a light I won't betray
