Emotion Denied

Please forgive me

Forgive me for forgiving you
When you used the ground to support your knee
The same ground you used to praise
The same knee you used on me

Forgive me for forgiving you
When your lips melted my heart
The same lips you used on her
The same heart that fell apart

Forgive me for forgiving you
When your hands sheltered me from fear
Those same hands that stung my eyes
Then the fear drove me to tears

Forgive me for forgiving you
When my hair touched your throat
The same hair torn from their roots
The same throat where booz would float

Forgive me for forgiving you
When your mouth stroked my face
The same mouth that abused my soul
The same face that fell from grace

But most of all

Forgive me forgiving you
When you begged, plead and cried
I still loved you when I knew
You couldn’t change if you tried

A piece of me already died
