Love Poem: Elusive Gold

Elusive Gold

Elusive Gold

What was I to do

Ready when I was born
the message moved slower
as I labored faster

Every year It asked
why do you not hear
It tried in multiple tongues
dreams
thinking
asking
shouting

But

My shattered wings ceased to fly
unable to lift
severed imaginings
mired judgment
buried senses
another broken heart

Yet

Somehow
the scales of being
this weighing tray
opposite hunger
righted itself
balance appeared

No longer mere weight of spent symbols
colored brushstrokes seeking perfect hue
scored adagios desperate for scherzo's flight
vacuous words scribed upon lonely pages

Never again would patience be lost
dreams left abandoned
sunrise avoided
silence deemed enemy

The elusive lightness of soul
tilted the scales ever so gently
ever so lightly
opening eyes
where a mist of tearful memories
escaped the prison of self pity

Love arrived
