Love Poem: East and West

East and West

We met by chance.
It was unexpected,
she smiled
as if she knew
that very moment
our kindred spirits
would emerge
from the blue
background of
melancholy hues
and dance.
Start the music.

Our hearts caught fire.
She seemed pensive
(and expensive) so
I scaled her walls,
high and mighty,
and then,
letting me in,
we trusted lightly
and spanned
long distances
with verse.
A dance of words.

We never believed.
Too much baggage
to carry
up those high walls of
misunderstandings
and we both knew,
what was better not said
it was better to wait
and even escape
from east to west,
with poems,
and distance.

Now it is over.
Mistakes were made
but that doesn’t matter
a fine line
was broken
and the flow of emotion
reversed direction
and flooded
the permanent blue
of our landscape
and split apart.
East and West.
