Drowning In Hot Sweat

I dreamt.
I hated it.
Why can't dreams leave me alone?
Oh yes, you were there,
sitting on the half-broken deck chair
beautiful, alone, vacant eyes, searching
the horizon far away.

I was there a few yards before you
but you saw me not.
Your lips moved soundlessly.
What did you need to say?
“Have courage? Are you so devoid of love?
Or care?”

Then I woke up.
The night was hot.
Sweat ran down my spine.
Yet you slept on.
I was drowning in a hot sweat.
Yet I was happy
For you were there.
Smelling like the dawn.
