Don'T Hurt Yourself Please Hurt Me Instead

You can't hurt me twice if you have hurt me once,
as only the past controls this influence

I can see that you feel bad so I show empathy
fixing your guilt must mean I ignore me

You made a mistake and it's what I believe
please don't feel bad that you cheated on me

You are clearly stressed out so I give sympathy
I guess looking at you means I'm blocking out me

I absorb your pain so from it you are freed
loving you means you matter more than me

Months will go by and you'll do it again,
I'll forgive you as I did back then

And then you just cheat knowing what will happen
I show more empathy ignoring the pattern

You'll take me for granted as I stop your sorrow
and I'll treat you so good even though I feel hollow

I'll make up my mind and decide it's time to go,
and be the greatest thing you no longer know

Because you cheated and cheated again and again,
the control that was yours became mine in the end

Now I'm done with you and I'll never come back,
and you'll love me when I'm gone, I'll never come back

You had control of the relationship on which I depend
but you're dependant after I say we end

You say I can't forgive and then change my mind,
you claim you're heartbroken and I was unkind
