Love Poem: Donny-Brooke Promise

Donny-Brooke Promise

Standing in the rain he looked at her, as she looked away
Drops of black tears down her face, but not from any pain
“Do you feel; do you even know what it is to love?”
It’s an indescribable feeling she thought, but the words delayed
Nothing felt right at the moment, nothing felt true
He stood and thought to himself, everything she portrays is subterfuge
All the beautiful words she wrote, all her little billet-doux
They’re just words; she doesn’t show anything she says
Knelt to the ground, he would kill for her if it ever came down to it
But if things got to boiling point, he would run and flee of it
She shuts down; his eyes are too intense to look into
Filled with hurt and sorrow, but the hope of tomorrow
She sits ashamed with a guilty face filled with ingénue
She’s never been in such a place, he is just sick of it
“I’ve been here before, and you haven’t!”
Love is not doubted, but time surely is unknown
This is still the beginning; there is still time to grow
Love is not guessed, Love is what they know
No other time before compares to the time here and now
The air is colder and the shivering over conversations subdues
Deep exhales exchanged, alluvion eyes to eyes corral
A forgiven embrace of the lips, collisions of hands meet
“Everything is worth fighting for, and you’re worth it to me”
Tender woes disperse and burning blushes die out
Tonight they lay impassive, and all cried out
I won’t let go
I won’t let go either
I won’t walk out
I won’t turn upon neither
