Diving Deep
What is it that keeps me
Diving so deep into a look,
A word, a feeling, a name
For something eternal
A connection to what
A past, a present, a future
This dark stagnant soul
Starving for energy
Drawn to the edge
Of the big black hole
That sucks you
To somewhere
Anywhere
Someday
But for now
There's baby smiles
Birdsongs
Fresh rain
Morning coffee
And a face
That knows yours
Even when it's long gone
Diving for nothing really
To squeeze the last juice
Of this existence
As if there'd be another face
And time to know it
Thank God for the baby's smile
Waking up to birds singing
Coffee
And, well
You, my ghost
Kept your vow
Even after the one
And so many other
Little deaths
You don't part
I can dive to the bottom
Of everything I see
Everyone I meet
And you know I will
Damn it
And all there's left
Is the baby's smile
Birds singing after fresh rain
and coffee
I've already dove so deep
and found myself
So many, too many, times in
The only place I've ever been
