Love Poem: Desire

Desire

Desire

Alone for a long time, he comes here,
to the tavern tucked away at the edge of town.
It has been a journey through
rising mist and half-light.

He stands watching,
neither young, but well along,
the beginning still remembered;
yet distance to the end not known.

He comes to find her
in the cacophony of lights and sounds inside.
There to either ask for forgiveness or
beg forbearance.

The desire to enter,
Balanced knife like by reticence,
he stands rooted.
