Love Poem: Dear Lady

Dear Lady

I held you tight as we said "Goodbye,"
we were ending, and I didn't know why;
the times we had were such fun indeed,
but time alone was now part of your need

The hours of talking had finally passed,
the parting of ways seemed to happen so fast;
my heart was hurting like never before,
as I watched you turn and walk out the door

I could only think, "What did I do so wrong
to put an end to this once happy song?"
Many years have passed since we ended our time,
but there's a place in my heart where we still do rhyme

I have never gotten over the love that we lost,
or the heartache I've carried at such a cost;
how foolish was I to let our love go,
and never feel it again - it hurts me so

The time with you I've never found any better,
but I threw it all away like a crumpled old letter;
I only hope that some day we will meet once again,
so I can gaze into your eyes like I did back then

I've loved you dear lady through all of these years,
and swallowed my pride through all of the tears;
the hole left in my heart will never go away,
after you closed the door that one fateful day

I thank you kind lady for loving me so,
and I think of you always - now you know;
time ended that day I watched you depart,
I will love you always...deep in my heart.
