Love Poem: Dating a Black Girl

Dating a Black Girl

You
tried to define me
reduce towers to rubble
the relationship imploded
now who's in trouble?

controlled demolition
you must have pulled it
tho' I didn't see you do it

steel washed to grey
you weren't harmed
but you were gone
yes, you were gone
somewhere secure
hiding, smiling

                  I was crying
                  I was dying

days changed to years
your victory thrills turned to pills

swollen swine
honey, you rolled in the mire

your lost kiss haunted
yet my motivation was fine

                   yes I realigned
                   yes I realigned

you lied a thousand times
you lied a thousand times

tears flowed rivers, yet time was on my side
the gods glued me back together

and where are you now girl?

                   hell if I know
                   hell if I care

I cared for you, but I don't stare back
the past is gone
I've heard where you live
and exactly what you'd give to be back here in my arms

you turned our world to black
take a sharp look at these callused hands

                    they'll never take you back
no, I won't take you back
