DANCING GOODBYE
(First two lines spoken)
The point of no return, as I took your hand
Out on the dance floor, would I be your man?
I took a chance, told you how I feel
Laid it all down, no cards to conceal
This wasn’t the plan—meant to dance slow
But holdin’ you close, girl, I had to know
I let the truth fall from my lips
Hopin' love would catch the slips
I took a chance, let my secrets fly
Your eyes said it all—we're dancin’ goodbye
This wasn’t the dream when I said, "I love you"
I pictured you smiling, sayin’, "I love you too"
You're in my arms, and I’ve no regrets
We still got this song—it’s not over yet
So I close my eyes, dream sweet romance
Time stands still... and I’m glad I took a chance
Maybe someday, you'll think of this night
How the stars leaned in, how the world felt right
But if all I get is this final dance
I'll still be thankful I took that chance
I took a chance, let my heart be true
Now I’m just dancin’ the last steps with you
You're not sayin' much, but your silence is loud
We're swayin' through goodbye in the arms of the crowd
Yeah, I took a chance, now the moment’s past
But for one slow song… I held love at last
It wasn’t forever—but girl, it was real
I took a chance… and I learned how love feels
Note: I wanted to write a little song about a guy who took a chance, made himself vulnerable, telling a girl how he feels about her... and without a word being spoken he knows they are dancing goodbye. And yet, he can live in the now and just for the moment.. focus on the girl in his arms!
