Crushed

She felt more love than ever before With him beside her there was pure joy When he touched her hand, it was her heart Which seemed to breathe with sweet delight ~ There were moments when her spirit danced Passionate feelings seemed to escalate Until she could no longer control her dreams She longed to be with him throughout eternity ~ She reached out to him the way a child might Always alive with flickers of kindness and insight She met his gaze with a smile that was so honest Never even considering that he could possibly leave ~ When that day came and he didn’t show up Her heart grieved in a defeated tremor of teardrops There were not enough words to reveal her pain It was like someone had died to never be again ~ Sadness became a echo that always reverberated Throughout her heart and home, without excuses She was humiliated, devastated and destroyed From the pain she felt she realized she’d been his toy ~ Whatever pain happens in this life, she came to believe Could never compare to the heartaches she’d seen As the years came and went, her wounds healed, scarring To harden into fear of bring close to anyone she met ~ Time soothed her soul and consoled her broken heart But never again would she know the joy of love so alive With him, she’d known the timeless feelings of being in love Yet, with him, she’d also known what it is to be totally crushed.
