Children of the Light

Just read my daily reading this morning
The insight gave me a new dawning.
My thoughts of today, drifted away,
To a time when I was a kid back in the day,
When all folk looked at life a different way.
We played together, Black, white and Brown,
The older folk never looked on us with a frown.
There was a time when there was no PC or PC,
We kids just enjoyed each others company.
We didn't just sit, without saying a word,
Looking back that would have been quite absurd.
We screamed and yelled as we played our game,
We ran around then, today we'd look insane.
Political correctness to all folk was still unheard,
Not to play with a black or a Jew never occured.
Kids in our street were never quiet or discreet,
Racism was a term we had yet to meet.
There are good and bad in every race,
If we swore it earned a slap on the face.
If you did it again you were in disgrace.
For the rest of that day all you could do,
Was to watch the kids play, but without you.
Now times have changed I don't think for the better,
Folk are scared to speak out, they watch every letter.
Think before you speak, about how it will sound,
Look before you do, to see who is around.
Always someone there to give you their advice,
If they don't like what you do, usually not very nice.
So went my thoughts after my reading today.
Before folk utter a word they should pray,
We are each others sister or brother.
That being so we should love each other.
