Childhood Christmas Memories

CHILDHOOD CHRISTMAS MEMORIES

The cold winds of December
Trekking through the woods
Seeking a tree we'd remember
The excitement felt so good

We would look until we found it
The perfectly shaped tree
Take it home to decorate
So lovely then to see

Colored paper made into chains
Alternating links, red and green
Homemade ornaments, rather plain
But to us, like no beauty seen

Lights purchased on faith alone
From the local hardware store
Paid for months after Christmas was gone
Unheard of any more

Our names written in a shoe box
Placed beneath the tree Christmas Eve
Hoping for a new pair of socks
And the fruit 'Santa' would leave

Lest you think that we were poor
I say nay to you
Love overshadowed it, that's for sure
Because love will always endure

So goes my childhood memories
None of which are sad
Four children with loving parents
No better memories can be had

Times may change, but love goes on
And memories never fade
No greater joy have I ever known
Than my childhood Christmas made
