Love Poem: Checkmate

Checkmate

Was it the day I saw you smoking in my courtyard
From the window maybe you looked perfectly happy
To be killing yourself.

Was it when I stepped onto your chessboard
With all the arrogance of a Minor God
Apprehended innocent
Jack of Spades red handed

There were no churches in my city
When it became your city too
I watched illusions of grandeur
slipping away between the pews

All the while I said,
I wanted to be your heaven and hell
But do you know,
I would not mind losing to you

I know I failed
When you stomped all over my dead body
I have been falling from those first moments with you
Defeat never felt so sweet when victory is yours

That which is yours is mine
I am yours.

After all
Life’s short and the Game is Long
Your live for the Game
I live only for being yours.
