Charting a New Course (Sondheim)

Our Lord’s there for me
There so lovingly
Through the dark He guides me

As He promised me He would
He has always understood
And when I’ve not been good
Still by my side He’s stood

Offering His love
He sends to me his Dove
How does He know just what I need when I’m down
Why, He just offers love

Sends me a better plan
Then He gently takes my hand
He would never leave me to flounder alone
No

He lifts me high
Comforts me when I cry
Until each tear is brushed away by His hand
His comforting hand
Leads me to a new land

It’s the kind of love that comes from just One
Not the love from a man
He leads me home

Takes me as I am
Inspired by His heart
A new course I chart
Grateful for a new start
I know we’ll never part

For John Heck's Sondheim contest. Lyrics to be sung to the tune of "Finishing the Hat"
from "Sunday in the Park with George."
