Love Poem: Change Inevitable

Change Inevitable

We were one, you and I
We rested by the bubbling stream
Notebooks out, thoughts on paper
Surroundings fragrant with spring growth
The serenity pierced by a cry of an eagle
Soaring in wide circles, floating high and low

Laces were tightened and retied
One step in front of the other, four feet in sync
As we continued the steep uphill climb
The warm beams of light streaming through
A canopy of old growth cedars and young pines
Soon the bluffs came in view above the cove

Only one of many past joyful adventures….
The roar of the bike comes to mind
Climbing the shadowed canyon highway
And along the lush green river valley
We glide as one leaning through the bends
Hot air burning exposed skin as the sun sets

These images and many more, only memories
Of a lifestyle, spontaneous, nothing held back
The life we lived, carefree, happy, excitement
Let us go, bags packed, gas in tank, music on
Highway cruising, west to east and north to south
Nothing stopped us, living in the moment, having fun

Those years are gone and sadly missed
Teary thoughts of what once was
Change inevitable, altering events, the world moves on
And two people become lost to one another
Then find each other but not the same
A distance created, a fear, too much in between
