Chance Encounter?

It was a dark and rainy night when the two lovers met,
just like any other, but one not to forget.

For, each had a journey, a road, a destiny,
Their roads had intertwined and the rest, you shall see.

It was ten o’clock and rainy when Jane’s car had broken down,
Her cell phone was now dead and no one was around.

She immediately got out and she threw open her hood.
She knew someone would stop. She knew someone should.

Then all of a sudden, an engine sound with some bright lights
Showed Jane what she needed on that dark, cold, wet night.

She thought for a moment, when fear had then crept in,
Maybe she should hide, in her car then she’d jump in.

But, no she just waited for the car to then slow down
And carefully signaled on the wet slippery ground.

Dave, the driver of the car, caught a glimpse in the dark
Of this woman who signaled and had the scream of a lark.

On the side of the road, pulled over and parked
Dave then got out and walked to Jane in the dark.

He asked if he could be of service, or help her at all,
Perhaps give her a lift or let her make a call.

She immediately thought and had asked him for a ride,
Just to get off the road on that dark, wet, cold night.

They drove off towards town when she turned and she gave
All the thanks that she could muster in appreciation of Dave.

Dave, being a gentleman, said he was doing what’s right,
He couldn’t leave her stranded on that road, on that night.

He pulled into town and dropped her off at her place,
But couldn’t just drive off, upon staring at her face.

She, not knowing what to say, but being afraid to let him go
Uttered the words that changed their destinies just so.

“Why don’t come in, please just for a minute or two.
I’d like to offer you a drink, or maybe a few.”

Well, Dave feeling awkward, but wanting to go in,
Stumbled for words, but agreed with a grin.

So, both of them entered through the door, their new life
And to this very day remain husband and wife.
