Love Poem: Carousel

Carousel

Back then we lived for carousels
Gold beams, mosaic skies
On horses shaded caramels
Float dreams of the unwise

We never soared to sky or sea
Yet rode on glittered waves
A molded track eternity
Did roll triumphant saves

I kept the snowy steed beside
For you, my partner made
Our smiles would effortlessly glide
Beneath the gilded shade

But then amidst our ‘lectric daze
A paint chip shaving fell
The amber mare that held your gaze
Would lose its pretty shell

Her colors frowned with raindrop lips
and shape dulled from anew
At once our grand affair eclipsed
Off with your steed you flew

The tarnished pole that held your face
Then faltered to the ground
Pink mirrored glass broke in disgrace
The only music sound

Loud inner gears did squeak and grind
Dim lights flickered in vain
Sharp remnants of a metal rind
Are all that now remain

To shining dreams I bid farewell
Beside my sad old mare
For now we see our carousel
Did not go anywhere
